Defining Worship Leadership

If worship can be defined as seeing God and being stirred to interact with and respond to Him, then worship leadership should be filled with efforts to:

- Consistently create environments of interaction with God

- Accurately depict the character and beauty of God

- Honestly stir the affections of others for God, and

- Graciously encourage appropriate responses to God

Thoughts?

How does one go about encouraging appropriate responses? That seems a bit tricky to me because sometimes it's hard to know what the appropriate response should be.

I agree. I think sometimes that could be as simple as saying, "Alright, now lets take some time to ask God how He would like us to respond to Him as individuals. This could be different for each of you" Other times, the appropriate response is clear: "Clap your hands all you people shout unto God with a voice of triumph!"

I don't think this was AS thought through as some of your posts. I am just being honest. :)

I KNOW that you feel that worship leading is more than leading the people into a self focused action. It is NOT simply a time to come into an ENVIRONMENT and hang out with God. To have a worship leader means that there must be a corporate gathering. CORPORATE implies that this is something done together. So it is more than simply interacting with God, - Accurately depict the character and beauty of God, Honestly stir the affections of others for God, and Graciously encourage appropriate responses to God...but also to PROCLAIM, REPENT, and REJOICE as a BODY.

I know you well enough to know that you agree with this statement. Because of that, I want to encourage you not to have anything you write on worship miss the heart of communion. Communion with God, but also His people.

The Western Church, Hillsong, Shane and Shane, and Delerious have plenty to say about ME-centered, FILL ME UP worship mentalities... make sure you are conveying a vision for all-nations even in your worship leading...Love yeah....
